Women’s Volleyball League: PAOK, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos continued with wins
PAOK, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos defeated Lamia, Ilysiakos and ZAON respectively for the men’s volleyball league by 3-0 sets. Last fifth is AO Thiras.
After defeats against Olympiakos and AEK (Cup semi-finals), Dikefalos was able to take the three points and stay ahead of his pursuers, with Lamia being quite competitive.
In the first set, the black and white quickly got away with 12-4, Lamia reduced to one point (12-11), but the 15-13 became 19-13 and PAOK confidently went to 1-0.
In the second set, Mr. Fenolio started with several substitutions and Lamia took the lead with an impressive 0-5 but failed to hold the difference. 3-8 became 7-8 on Klepko’s serve and PAOK passed 10-9, turning 10-10 into 17-10 (Iliopoulou’s ace) to make it 2-0.
Lamia tried to get back in the game, they held the third set lead to 15-17 with PAOK starting a 5-0 run (20-17) but Lamia responded to make it 20-20. There, the reception of the guests could not cope with the serve of PAOK, who took the set and the win with individual results of 5:1.

Panathinaikos left the trophy behind
Panathinaikos put the cup loss behind and returned to positive results by winning the 20th matchday of the Women’s Volley League with a 3–0 set against Ilysiakos.
In the opening two sets, Ilysiakos was uncompetitive, committing 15 of his 24 total errors, with Panathinaikos pressing from the service line and causing problems for the Ilysiakos team’s reception.
In the third set, Ilysiakos started with a 5:0 run, Panathinaikos equalized with 8:8, so that both teams scored together until 19:19. The greens got away with two points and a little later Mercury made it 0-3 with an ace at 22-25.

Olympiacos scored in 51 minutes
With Olympiakos’ victory in Zirinio, the curtain opened on the 20th round of the Women’s Volleyball League.
Lorenzo Micelli rested most of his main players (only Winters, Genitsaridis were used compared to the game against PAOK), but the Red-Whites had no trouble winning 3-0 in 51 minutes.

AO Thiras secured fifth place
On the contrary, Aris, despite leading by a 1-0 set and having a bowl set in the 2nd, failed to score and has yet to mathematically secure a top 8 finish.
The Yellows surprised Thira in the first set and with Tani serving, the 8-7 became 15-7. Santorini closed in 18-14 and 23-19 but without threatening any more.
In the second set, AO Thiras started better, going 12-16 and 14-19, but that’s where we got the big surprise when Aris ran a 6-0 run (we also had a red card in protest) for 20-19. The home side led by 24:23 but Caicedo lost her serve, Tzumba hit an out and Bozic hit an ace to level the game 1-1.
Aris got off to an impressive start in the 3rd set (7-2), AOTH reduced to 8-7 and although Thessaloniki’s team went 12-8 again, the visitors immediately responded with the 12-12 equaliser. Aris took a 19-18 lead last time out to get a new 19-22 series there. An attack from Alexakos narrowed the difference to one point (21-22), but consecutive blocks from Thira made the final 21-25.
The visitors, now in the lead, escaped early in the fourth set (3-7, 5-9) to make it 12-17, Aris cutting back to 15-17 and losing a counter-ball to close the gap on the point and Ketsman with back-to-back attacks to 15-21. Aris tried to reduce, he got close to 19-22, but without getting anything more…

Thetis passed Aegaleo
With a serve and a block that earned her 30 points, Thetida Voulas turned the tables and took the three points with a 3-1 set.
Pressure off serve and correct placements at net brought Thetida’s 10th win of the year, and the three win points cemented her at #6 and +5 from Aris. However, after AO Hunt’s victory in Mikra with a 3-1 set, the difference with the team from Santorini remained at +7 and with two games left there is no time to claim 5th place in the standings.
Aegaleo was able to take the lead and win the set 1-0, with Petovari scoring 10 of his 30 total points in set number one. Thetida increased her performance from the second set, pressed on the serve and managed the turn with a good block and took the win.
Ariana Pirve lost 6-4 to Aegaleo in the third set, with the home winger feeling uneasy and Angeliki Antoniadis replacing her with Ermina Gekovic.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

Lokomotiv volleyball players beat MSTU in a Russian championship match
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Moscow MSTU in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.

St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
