Olympiakos – Milos 3: 0: The red and white made the first step easily
Olympiacos won a 3-0 set against Milos and took the first of the three steps required to qualify for the Men’s Volleyball League final.
With Hidalgo and Payenk at the helm and the pressing service as their weapon, Olympiacos defeated Milona by a 3–0 set in the first semi-final of the playoffs, taking the first of three steps to qualify for the finals of the Volley League Championship playoffs . The qualification will be decided based on the 3 wins and if necessary all semifinals of the pair will be 25/3, 5/4, 8/4, 12/4.
On Saturday (March 25, 9:30 p.m.) the “Red-Whites” will meet Milos in the second semi-final of the Volley League in Nea Smyrni.
Olympiacos “entered” the match strongly, leading 6-3 with Stern’s attack, with Hidalgo winning back-to-back aces for +5 (9-4).
Olympiacos started the game with a strong serve as a weapon. Hidalgo was the frontrunner, opening quickly to 9-4 with two aces. Payenk’s two aces followed, taking the score to 13-5. Milonas couldn’t stand the pressure, Payenk’s spin followed from 9 meters and with a 4-0 run it was 25:13.
Milonas went into the second set 5-0 thanks to Nanopoulos’ very good serve. The New Smyrna team led 2-8, but Olympiacos on a 4-0 run thanks to Hidalgo’s serve reduced it to 6-8. Payenk with an ace gave Olympiakos a 10-9 lead. Duels at the net followed until 17-17. With attacks from Payenk, Zoupani, Olympiacos took a 19-17 lead. With the advantage at net, Olympiacos kept that small +2 lead to 24-22 with Payenk. Yordanov reduced to 24-23 and Payenk made it 25-23 with a new attack.
In the third set, Olympiacos Milonas, who again led 2-5, left no room for a reaction. Again with Hidalgo but also Koumendakis, Stern, Olympiacos took control again, going on a 5-0 run and passing 8-5. Milonas had no answers and Olympiakos with Stern and Hidalgo on serve shot to 18-12. There the match was decided as Milonas had no answers and with Stern, Payenk, Hidalgo finished the game 25-20.
