Olympiacos – Panathinaikos 2-3: Green lead with reversal
Panathinaikos won 3-2 sets by upsetting Olympiakos at “Melina Mercouri” and secured a lead for the League Cup.
Olympiacos and Panathinaikos offered another thrilling game, with the Greens winning 3-2 sets at “Melina Merkouri”.
The Andreopoulos players fell behind with a 2-1 set, but then turned the situation against themselves and took the lead on Green Wednesday (December 4th, 9:00 p.m.) at the OAKA.
The leader of Panathinaikos is Kovar who won the 4th and 5th sets where the reversal of victory took place. Top performance from Hernandez, the blockers Petraea, Rangel and of course Jacobsen.
Olympiacos presented a mediocre reception, lacking rhythm and was hit by an injury to Stern in the 4th set. The “Red-Whites” looked tired after the 2-1 set and blocked against the serve and the cloverleaf block.
This is what both teams want in the second final: After that score, Panathinaikos will want to win any score in the rematch. For their part, Olympiacos are aiming for a 3-0 or 3-1 win. If the red-white win 3-2 sets, we have a golden set.
The match: Panathinaikos was the one who came into the game stronger and managed to escape the game with Hernandez’s performances at 1-10. The greens continued to 9-20 on the same turns.
At this point, Hidalgo took the serve, got two aces, broke Panathinaiko’s reception and reduced to 14-20 with a partial 5-0. However, the continuation belonged to Andreopoulos’ players, finishing the set 17-25.
In the second set, Olympiakos was the one who came into play stronger and took a three-point lead. Panathinaikos responded and overtook 10-11.
Pagenk then served and helped Olympiacos escape by five (17-12). Panathinaikos did that twice, reducing the deficit to two points, but the red-white team with their service as a weapon made it 25-19 in sets to make it 1-1.
In the third set, Panathinaikos came out stronger and led 5-9, but the continuation belonged to Olympiakos, who changed the picture of the set with his serves.
First, Stern helped the Reds to a 5-0 run to a 10-9 lead. Then it was Hidalgo’s turn to take action and close the gap to four points (16-12).
Panathinaikos succeeded, cutting to a point (18-17) with an attack from Kovar, but reception problems persisted on the greens and Olympiakos went 25-21 to make it 2-1.
Andreopoulos’ players started the fourth set strong and managed to evade the goal from the start. Unlike in the first set, the red-whites could not concede the difference this time and thus Panathinaikos made it 2:2 in the sets and sent the match into a tie-break.
There the two teams went point by point until the 7-7. From there it was Kovar who led the greens with a 4-0 run to an 11-7 lead. The difference went as far as 14-8 for Andreopoulos’ players to finish the game 15-10.
