AEK – Panathinaikos 1-3: New break for the greens and qualification for the final

Panathinaikos prevailed for the second time at AEK’s home stadium with a 3-1 set and qualified for the final of the Women’s Volleyball League, where they meet Olympiakos.

We had a third break in the series between Panathinaikos and AEK, with the Greens winning Union’s set in New Philadelphia 3-1 and qualifying for the Volley League final where they will face Olympiakos.

The greens were more consistent throughout the game and deserved to qualify. Great match of Anthoulis, Grothes, Cross and Roga. The entry of Hatziefstratiadou, who helped significantly, proved to be decisive.

The match: AEK came into play stronger and took a 4:1 lead with Nizetich’s serves, but the greens quickly equalized and the two teams continued point by point until 11:11.

From that point on Panathinaikos managed to spoil AEK’s reception, his block worked exceptionally well and Kalmazidis’ players even got away with eight points (14-22) to win the set 19-25.

In the second set, Panathinaikos was the one to walk away first with three (6-9), but AEK immediately leveled the set with a partial 3-0 thanks to Nizetich’s serves.

Union twice managed it by three points (14-11 and 20-17) but Panathinaikos equalized immediately. Thus the set was decided in detail as AEK took it 25-23 thanks to an attack from Calderon and a miss from Anthoulis.

The third movement variation was insane. AEK led 6-1, Panathinaikos reduced to two (6-4), but Union managed to escape 11-6. The Greens managed to close the gap while we had a short break in the game at 14-11.

Panathinaikos fell to a point (14-13) but AEK again got away with three (16-13). From then on it was 2:10 for Panathinaikos. The Greens took the lead at 18:19, Hadziefstratiadou served, while the Greek center left at 18:23.

AEK managed to concede the difference again, but it was Panathinaikos who managed to close the set 25-22 and take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth set, the Kalmazidis players went into the game at full throttle and led 8:2 and 4:11. AEK reduced to two (10-12), but Grothes helped Trefylli with her serves with seven (11-18).

Panathinaikos went into the closing stages of the set with 22:15, Union was able to reduce both (22:24), but the match ended with an attack from Silva. The AEK people protested the decision, but Mylonakis stood by his decision.
