Panathinaikos 3-1 Olympiakos: Green lead in the final
Panathinaikos won a 3-1 set against Olympiakos and took the first step towards winning the Women’s Volleyball League title.
In a game stoppage of about an hour, Panathinaikos defeated Olympiakos 3-1 and took the first step towards winning the Women’s Volleyball League Championship.
The greens, with the exception of the second set, were better than the red-whites in detail and drove to victory. The next game is next Wednesday (03.05.).
The match: Olympiacos led 3-1 at the start of the set, Papafotious’ serves allowing Panathinaikos to run 6-0 to take a 6-3 lead.
From then on, the Greens continued to widen the gap, Olympiakos’ reception had many problems and the 1-0 to 25-10 came naturally.
What we wrote above, reverse the teams and you will see how the second set went. Olympiacos was the one who pressed from serve position, Anae couldn’t make an opening and so the red-whites started to build a difference.
Panathinaikos was unable to react despite Kalmazidis’ substitutions, increasing the gap between the two teams. Thus Olympiacos reached the 1-1 set with 25-10.
We had more tension in the third set. Panathinaikos came into the game stronger and led 7-1, but Olympiacos started to close the gap. In fact, he reduced to a point with Koumboura’s ace (12-11).
Panathinaikos again got away with three points, Olympiakos didn’t let them escape and an ace from Lambrousi saw the red-white team reduce the score to 19-18. At that point, Anae’s serves turned the tide and Panathinaikos escaped with four (23-19).
A flaming smoker caused play to be momentarily halted and the greens eventually finished the set 25-21. Immediately afterwards, the referee called for the evacuation of the stadium and the game started after almost an hour.
In the fourth set we almost had a point-to-point fight. Panathinaikos was the one who had the longest duration of the game by two points and ended up with a 24-23 bowl set.
Olympiacos survived and had his own chance to complete the set two more times, but he failed, which Panathinaikos eventually did on his third chance.
