Women’s Volley League: Last game counts first, PAOK won derby with Aris

Panathinaikos and Olympiakos continued with victories in the Women’s Volley League and so the first place in the last match is counted. PAOK beat Aris 3-1 in the Thessaloniki derby.

Panathinaikos, with a rotation, edged out Aiada Evosmos 3-0 through the many absences and a game before the end of the regular season were held at the top of the league and +3 by Olympiakos.

Apostolos Oikonomou opted to refresh his team, starting with the celebrating Brabila on the diagonal, Metaxa-Konstandellou in the centre, Hadava-Konstantinou at the ends and Libero Xindara, while Aiantas was absent in Athens, despite playing with that character first, he stood up decently against the Greek Cup winners.

Panathinaikos pressed Aiada on reception in the first set (14-10 ace Konstantelou), had a solid lead and at 22-17 Papastergiou took Papafotiou’s place with the “Greens” to make 1-0 (25-17 Konstantinou).

The picture didn’t change in the second set either, the hosts took the lead (10:5 Konstantinos), Aiada couldn’t find any solutions and the difference opened to +6 (20:14) to 2:0 for the “Greens” with 25 -15 .

The fighter Ajax – despite Panathinaikos’ 2-0 lead – chased the stages in the third set and followed the hosts in goal. Papadopoulou shortened the score to 16:15 for the guests, but in the 3-0 formation (25:18 Tsitsigianni) the experience and wealth of opportunities of the “Greens” counted.

Olympiacos continue their winning streak

A full round unbeaten went to Olympiakos, who victoriously edged past AO Thira’s headquarters and avenged their first-round loss.

With AOTH playing without Mitrovic (he fractured the little finger of his hand in the last practice session before Cup Final 4 and overplayed in Heraklion), Olympiakos only encountered resistance at the start of the first two sets.

In the first set, 12-11 became 12-15 with the services of Hippe and 17-20 became 17-23, while in the second set AOTH led 8-5 for Salas to get the change and Kuba had a terrible run from the series Service that sends the score to 8-14.

In the third set, Olympiakos led 1-4, 2-9 with Good Morning and reached 4-19 to win the set 10-25 and the three-pointer.

Thessaloniki Derby in PAOK

PAOK faced Aris in the 25th and penultimate game of the regular season of the Women’s Volley League Championship at Mikra National Gymnasium, from where they won by 1-3 sets.

In the first set, the two teams separated 7:7, 9:9 and up to 11:11, with PAOK taking the lead with 12:13. The “black and white” took the lead with +2 points (16-18) and won the set with 18-25 points.

In the second set, Dikefalos, although back in the game at 5:4, caused a surprise and took the lead 10:13. However, the Yellows countered, went past the goal at 18:16 and then equalized the sets at 25:20.

In the third set, the “Black and Whites”, despite being back in the score at 11-9, leveled to 13-13 and opened up the deficit to +4 points (13-17), keeping the lead safe in conquering the sentence of 22-25 points (1-2 sentences).

In the fourth set, the girls of PAOK “gasped” and took a 5-8 point lead while then shooting the difference to +5 points (7-12) and +9 points (12-21). PAOK didn’t leave the opponent any leeway and won the set with 15-25 points and won the game with 1-3 sets.
