Men’s Panathinaikos Volleyball: The Greens claimed their biggest win against Olympiakos
Panathinaikos prevailed by a 26-point lead over Olympiakos, claiming their biggest win since 1998 while maintaining a large margin even in the event of a draw.
Panathinaikos may have edged Olympiakos 3-0 and moved away from the Volley League table with five points, but also secured a large lead in a potential draw.
The 75-49 on points is the Greens’ biggest win in an all-time derby and that +26 could prove crucial if the two teams end up tied in the rankings at the end of the mini-championship.
What does it mean that even a 3-0 win of Panathinaikos’ Olympiacos in the ninth game, if at the end of the second round both teams are equal, the difference in points in the games between them matters. So the red-whites may not only need a clear three, but also need to cover -26.
In addition to mentioning that 25-11 in the 2nd set is the largest “green” set difference since 1998 when the new scoring system was introduced.
