Vyacheslav Zaitsev, Soviet volleyball legend, has died

The great passerby of the Soviet Union, Vyacheslav Zaitsev, with whom he conquered everything, died at the age of 70.

World volleyball grew poorer after Vyacheslav Zaitsev breathed his last at the age of 70. He is the passer of the national team of the Soviet Union and after that he dominated the World Cup for almost twenty years.

Notably, he won gold at least once in all competitions. In summary, there were 11 gold medals and five silver medals in his palmare.

On a collective level, he competed with Avtomobilist Leningrad (now Sparta St. Petersburg), with whom he won the Top Teams Cup twice and the Challenge Cup twice, among others.

He was inducted into the World Volleyball Federation Hall of Fame in 2013 for his accomplishments on the field.

At the end of his career he competed in Italy, where he lived with his wife and swimming champion Irina Pozdiakova.

Together they had two children, Anna and Ivan. Of course, this is the world volleyball superstar who boasts an impressive record, but he competes with the Italian national team, taking advantage of the fact that he (like his sister) was born in the country and has lived there for ten years.

In fact, Ivan Zaitsev said goodbye to my father with a photo of them, to which he wrote: “Hello dad. Have a nice journey and now rest if you can.”
