Olympic volleyball champion Alexander Volkov had the prerequisites for coaching, said the head coach of the Kazan volleyball “Zenith” Alexei Verbov.
Last season, 38-year-old Volkov, along with Zenit, won the Russian championship and became a six-time national champion, after which he announced his retirement as a player. In May, Volkov was appointed head coach of Belogorye Belgorod.
– He definitely has leadership qualities, he also understands volleyball better than many athletes with whom I met. He is always not indifferent to the life of the team: to what and how it does. This applies to the training and not only the process. This says a lot – there are prerequisites for coaching. But for starters, of course, this is not enough. There is a player’s authority, there is trust on the part of the club’s management, but it is very important that he turn this authority into a coaching authority as soon as possible. This is not an easy job, because it is not a change of position. And I have experienced it myself. Although I had an easier situation: for several years I combined the position of a player and a coach – I was a playing coach. This gave certain opportunities for understanding what kind of work it is. He joins the team almost immediately. Probably, there will be no task to immediately fight for the first places, as was the case in Kazan, where there is no room for error. Belgorod’s task, as far as I know, is to get into the prizes, into the top 4. They would like to move someone from our four, which in recent years is always and everywhere.
This may make the task easier. But globally it will be very difficult. It will depend on him how quickly it will turn out. Let’s look together with you. I, too, will follow with pleasure and interest. I wish him good luck. I am grateful to Sasha for the help of the captain in the last two years. A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
The leader in the table is Zenit Kazan (16 wins, 45 points), Zenit from St. Petersburg (14 wins, 43 points) is second.
