ZAON returns to the Women’s Volley League after 19 years

ZAON beat Vrilissia 3-1 and celebrated promotion to the Women’s Volley League after 19 years.

After 19 years, ZAON returned to the major category of women’s volleyball. The Kifissia team won 3-1 sets at FO Vrilissia headquarters to secure first place and direct promotion to the Women’s Volley League one game before the final of Group 3 of the Women’s Pre League.

In its 60-year history, Zirineos Athletic Club of Youth, as the club is called by its full name, celebrated five national championships (1974, 1975, 1976, 1980, 1981) under the coach Soulis Toursougas and the 1982-1983 season, at the first national championship in women’s volleyball in second place in Greece behind Panathinaikos. In 1985 he was relegated for the first time and after two years (1987) he returned to the first division, where he stayed for seven consecutive years.

In 1994 he was relegated to the A2 and it was seven years before he returned. In the 2001/2002 season, under coach George Samaras, she also won the Greek Women’s Cup and finished 5th in the A1 Women’s Championship. In 2003 he was relegated to the A2, returning after 19 years in the national categories.

  • APS Admiral Votsi – Apollon Kalamata 1-3 (22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 22-25)
