Panathinaikos Women’s Volleyball: Finally, Oikonomou, Gates took over

Panathinaikos announced the end of its collaboration with Apostolos Oikonomou and the hiring of Serb Branko Gajc.

A few days after winning the cup, the Panathinaikos women’s volleyball team announced the end of their collaboration with Apostolos Oikonomou, but also the signing of Branko Gates in his place.

The corresponding announcement in detail: “Panathinaikos Athletic Club announces the start of its collaboration with coach Branko Gajic for women’s volleyball department.

The Serbian manager signed a contract with Panathinaikos for this year and next 2022/23 season. Gajic has extensive experience in European stadiums as coach of the Serbian girls’ national under-18 team, while he is also the first coach of CSM Volei Alba-Blaj (Romania), Dinamo București (Romania), AO Thira (Greece) and Radnički Blasters (Serbia ).

At the same time, he has the experience of European competitions, having reached the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup with AO. Thira in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

2018-19 Third place with AO Thera in Women’s Volley League

2018-19 Participation in AO Thira in the challenge cup

2019-20 Second place with AO Thera in Women’s Volley League

Volleyball players of Kazan “Zenith” won the Russian Super Cup for the 11th time

Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).

Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.

For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

Kazan “Zenit” reached the final of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup

Kazan “Zenit” defeated “Zenith” from St. Petersburg in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.

In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.

The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Dynamo Moscow in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:13, 30:28).

In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.

The final match will take place on December 26.
