The U17 women’s national team lost to Italy 3-2 in sets and thus secured the bronze medal at the European Championships.

Shocking for yet another game, the women’s national team gave it their all against European champions Italy, but lost in the final by 3-2 sets, 16-14 in the tiebreak and failed to qualify for the final of the European Girls’ U17 Championship. The Greek internationals will meet Croatia on Sunday afternoon (July 23, 4:30 p.m.) for the bronze medal.

Although she was 2-0 sets behind, Kosta Gouda’s athletes gave their best on the Vriniatska Banja floor, equalizing in 2-2 sets and leading the tiebreak by 11-8. However, the Italians managed their counterattack and secured their ticket to the final.

Many complaints of our national team came from the refereeing of the Azerbaijani Zaur Khajiev, especially in the tie-break but also in the previous sets which, among other mistakes, changed his original decision twice.

*Greece’s points came from 9 aces, 51 attacks, 5 blocks and 35 errors and Italy came from 8 aces, 53 attacks, 15 blocks and 30 errors.
