Men’s Volley League: Big game in Syros between Finikas and Olympiakos
The top game between Finikas Syros and Olympiakos (8/4, 19:15) stands out from the program of the 6th game of the 2nd phase of the men’s volleyball league.
The derby between the Cup finalists and Super Cup holders Finikas ONEX and Olympiakos stands out in the program of the 6th match and the first match of the Vyfas round in the Volley League championship (8 , Sportish LIVE).
The two teams are tied on 20 points, they are at -2 from champion Panathinaikos and +2 from PAOK. Finikas counts a streak of 4-0 victories in the league, but it stems from the defeat in the cup final with PAOK.
Finik ONEX winger Costas Kapetanidis said: “Both teams are not in our best phase. Olympiacos lost to a very good PAOK. We also lost to PAOK in the cup final. Still, we’re leaving the Final Four behind and concentrating on beating Olympiakos because it’s arguably one of the most important games in the league because whoever loses on Friday is pretty far away from the league title. We will do our best to achieve this victory. I think we’ll focus on this game, it’s enough if we come. Playing at home gives us strength and lift. We want to show our best face in our world.”
Olympiacos is ready for anything. After the cup he turns to the championship. Everyone knows that potential point losses limit the ultimate goal of the title, while on the other hand they will gain a huge advantage if they victoriously pass Syros.
Italian Olympiacos coach Alberto Giuliani explained: “In the table, one team is close to the other, there is competition and that’s why it will be important to fight for every ball in Syros in order to secure the important points and the victory . “Our team has worked hard because it has the will to keep believing in the title.”
Olympiacos libero Dimitris Zisis said: “It’s a key game for us, this win will significantly increase our chances of the title. We are ready for a tough game and I believe that with determination and the right tactical game we can beat a very good Finikas team.
Olympiakos leads 35-14 in 49 league games.
