The Greek national team couldn’t smile on their debut at Women’s Eurovolley 2023 after suffering a 3-0 sets defeat (19:25, 21:25, 27:29) against Germany, one of the host countries of the event.
With her left hand she began her tasks Women’s Euro Volleyball 2023, which is hosted on Belgium, Germany, Italy and Estonia, the Greek national team, which lost 3-0 in sets (19-25, 21-25, 27-29) to Germany in Düsserdolf, in the third group. The next opponent of our representative group is Sweden (19.8., 6:00 p.m.).

43-46 points on offense, 8-8 points from blocks, 4-2 aces and 12-23 points from enemy errors.
The match
The national coach started the game with Konstantinidou, Anthoulis, Lambrousi, Kalandatze, Strandzali, Nikologianni and Artakianou as sweepers.
In the first set, 4-3 became 7-3 after we lost a double tie-break and Alsmayer spoiled our welcome with her serve, allowing Germany to walk away 10-4, 12-6. The answer came with a serve from Konstantinidou for 12-10, while Ortman stopped the Greek winning streak but injured himself.
But instead of causing an upset in Germany, the home team ran 3-0 (16-11) and this time held the lead to the end. And that’s because Pogani played a terrible defense against Nikologiannis at 20-17, robbing us of an opportunity to reduce the score to two…
The start of the second set (Todai instead of Lambrousi in the original line-up) was a nightmare as we lost 4-0 after consecutive errors, but after Ocal’s time-out there was a reaction (4-3) to equalize at 7 – 7.
However, Germany escaped again (9-7) and a little later it was 11-8 (Anthoulis out) and 15-11 (Block by Strandzalis), with Greece losing three counterattacks by the time the score was 19-15 and eventually managing to move up to 19th place :17 to come to 21-19.
The defense came out but we also lost the counter to reduce it to one point (Block by Strandzalis at 22:19) and we accepted the counter (23:19) to come up with another lost counter (Block by Anthoulis ) to come to 25:21.
The third set was initially perfectly balanced, with the national team eventually taking the lead (7-8 against Anthoulis attack) and going +2 (9-11 with a block by the superb Nikologianni). Although Germany equalized 12:12 (Anthoulis out), we not only didn’t lose, we also got away straight away (13:15 instead of Constantinidou) and in the 15:17 it was 15:18 with a terrible attack from Strantzalis and a block by Anthoulis to make the difference in its maximum value at 16-21 (Anthoulis again). And yet we couldn’t clear the set despite reaching 21:24 as we lost another counterattack there (22:24), didn’t finish our attacks and Germany equalized (24:24) to equalize achieve bo (26-25).
Kalandatze erased it, Anthouli put us back in front but in the next stage we lost again on the break (27-27) with Germany getting the two points they were looking for with Schetzel and winning the game.
