Panathinaikos Women’s Volleyball: First for the green women in OAKA
The Panathinaikos women’s volleyball team held the first training session of the year with many new faces.
On Monday morning (21.8.) the first meeting of the women’s volleyball team of Panathinaikos took place in the outdoor area of OAKA.
At their first meeting, the “Greens” were welcomed by President Mr. Panagiotis Malakate, Vice-President Mr. Dimitris Vranopoulos, General Leader Mr. Sotiris Nikas, President of the Finance Committee Mr. Dimitris Godikas and Race Director Sotiris Pantaleon and Rouli Agrapidakis.
Preparation began with the gymnasts: Penny Roga, Maret Grothes, Natalia Metaxas, Irini Hatziefstratiadou, Ilioni Kelesidis, Maria Jenitsaridis, Kenya Karkases, Marianna Belia, Sheridan Atkinson, Sofia Vasilantonaki and Theodora Fumaki.
The team’s captain, Athina Papafotiou, will be integrated into preparations in the coming days, as will Martina Samandan when she fulfills her obligations with the Croatian national team.
The team’s coach, Yiannis Kalmazidis, said: “We definitely expect a lot of effort from the administration, the staff and the athletes.” We made good maneuvers inside and outside the transfer period. I’m talking about the training we’re going to do and the new headquarters in Metz. As goals, we have the will and ability to…achieve high goals. There are many things that can happen in a year, but we want to be ready to achieve the goals that we have set.”

Volleyball players of Kazan “Zenith” won the Russian Super Cup for the 11th time
Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).
Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.
For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

Kazan “Zenit” reached the final of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup
Kazan “Zenit” defeated “Zenith” from St. Petersburg in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.
In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.
The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

Novosibirsk Lokomotiv became the first finalist of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Dynamo Moscow in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:13, 30:28).
In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.
The final match will take place on December 26.
