Women’s Volley League: AEK defeated PAOK 3-1 to take the lead in qualifying

AEK with Kosma beat PAOK 3-1 on a big day to take the lead in qualifying for the Women’s Volley League semifinals.

AEK beat PAOK for a fourth time (in an equal number of games) and made the first move to qualify for the semi-finals of the Women’s Volley League.

Despite losing the first set, Union then really changed their game (from 17% in attack to 47% on average in the next three sets) by receiving PAOK (all the hosts’ 9 aces came after 0-1 ) and then the 1 -1 prevailed very easily.

Now AEK needs in the second match, which takes place on Sunday, April 17th.

In the first set, PAOK fell short of a 1-0 score for the first and last time, going down to 1-5, with the black and white paying for their mistakes at 8-9, quickly becoming 8-12 (with consecutive blocks) without ever being able to approach the Union (15-23, 17-25).

Conversely, the beginning of the second set was similar, where AEK pushed from the service line and turned from 7:5 to 11:5 to come to 16:9 with continuous errors by the guests. PAOK responded at 20-15 with Polynopoulou in service as they reduced to 20-18 and an ace from Kojiar got close to the point (22-21), but an attack from Terel and an ace from Lindsay took it to 25- 22 for 1 – 1.

In the third set, PAOK started better, but at 7-9 Kosma’s serve brought ups and downs, with AEK leading a 6-0 series for 13-9 that took two blocks from PAOK (with the Kyparissi taking the place) to 13- 11 was by Merteki). However, at 15-12, AEK led a new series at +7 (20-13) and easily reached 2-1.

Costas Arseniadis’ team, which now has a different psychology, started impressively, from that point onwards reaching 9-3 with PAOK very quickly and then playing without any of their three foreigners. The Black and Whites reduced to 11-8, but, like in the previous set, quickly lost touch with the score (16-9), allowing AEK to easily reach the 25-17 final score.
