Women’s Volley League: Panathinaikos defeated AO Thira 3-1 in the semifinals

Panathinaikos defeated AO Thira again with a 3-1 set and qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s Volley League, where they await the winner of the pair PAOK – AEK.

Panathinaikos qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s Volley League. The Greens prevailed for the second time in a few days against AO Thira with 3:1 sets and now their opponent in the quartet.

Panathinaikos will know their opponent on Sunday afternoon when the match between PAOK and AEK is over.

Panathinaikos led 5-1 in the first set, forcing Costas Papadopoulos to quickly call his first time-out. With Athena Papafotiou feeding all of her teammates, the Greens increased the difference at 1-0 to a double-digit number at 25-13.

As margins tightened, AO Thiras risked off the service line, gaining control after the initial 3-0 to level the tie in 1-1 sets 25-17.

With Grothes and Chatziefstratiadou in the lead, Panathinaikos took early control of the third set (9-4) to secure their ticket to the semifinals with 25-16 and 2-1 sets.

The fourth set, despite being procedural in nature, Branko Gates and Costas Papadopoulos maintained their basic formation on the field, with AO Thiras taking a 9-5 lead but Panathinaikos passing 14-13 before mid-set blocks by Eva Hadava. Game leader Maret Grotesht made the final 25-22 for a 3-1 set with an attack from the “6” position.

Volleyball players of Kazan “Zenith” won the Russian Super Cup for the 11th time

Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).

Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.

For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

Kazan “Zenit” reached the final of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup

Kazan “Zenit” defeated “Zenith” from St. Petersburg in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.

In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.

The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Dynamo Moscow in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:13, 30:28).

In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.

The final match will take place on December 26.
