Athlos Orestiada has signed Colombian international winger Leiner Aponcha Carambali, who will be available to play from December 15th.

The corresponding announcement in detail: “The management of TAA Athos Orestiada is pleased to announce the start of cooperation with the international athlete of Colombia, Leiner Aponza Carabali, with a view to the 2023-2024 Volleyleague season. The new addition to our team is expected to take place tonight in Orestiada, officially placed under the direction of the Romanian coach Cristian Citigoi and to strengthen our club in this year’s attempt at the award. It should be noted that from December 15, 2023 and especially from the 8th matchday in which Athlos takes part, Karabali has the right to take part on one day off.

Liner Aponza Carambali was born on August 27, 2001 in Bogotá, is 2.00 m tall and plays as a winger. Despite his young age, in addition to the Colombian championship, where he was crowned champion with Vallecaucana in 2021, he has already taken part in three other foreign championships (Bahrain, Finland, Indonesia). This season will be his first appearance in Greek stadiums. He also has a twin brother, international center Daniel Aponza, who played for Slovenian club Calcit Kamnik last year.

The newly acquired Orestiada international is captain of Colombia’s U23 team, with whom he finished 4th at the 2021 Pan American Games, while also emerging as the tournament’s top scorer. In 2022, he won the silver medal in the organization of the 12th Men’s South American Games, while he won the bronze medal in the organization of Brazil at the 2023 South American Men’s Championship.

In addition to his attacking talents, the left-handed winger is characterized by his strength and jumping ability, as he shoots from 3.70 m and blocks from 3.50 m.

In his first official statements as an Athlos athlete, Leiner Aponza stated the following on the website athlosorestiadas.gr: “I come to Orestiada to help my new team achieve all the high goals it has set for this year.” I am grateful to the club and the administration for giving me the opportunity to compete in the strong and competitive Greek league.
