PAOK – Panathinaikos 2-3: With Hernandez in place, the greens passed the PAOK Sports Arena
Panathinaikos beat PAOK 3-2 in a game with many substitutions in Thessaloniki, with Hernandez putting in a great performance with 30 points.
Despite the problems the two teams had, PAOK and Panathinaikos fought hard in a full game and the Greens won 3-2 sets.
For the winners, the leader was Hernandez, who was unstoppable for most of the game and had 30 points. Without Ierethuelos, the greens had problems again as Kasambalis took over the distribution of the game.
Great work also from Protopsaltis, who once again put in a full performance, scoring 15 points, Kovar added 18, while Voulkidis’ effort was also crucial.
On the other hand, PAOK played without the injured Rousso, who is apparently being replaced. Menelaos Kokkinakis played as a winger and did an excellent job with 11 points, good receptions and a lot of defense, while Dan Dries played an excellent game offensively with 26 points.
The match: Panathinaikos, with the services of Kasambalis, managed to build a lead that reached all four points, but PAOK, in turn, managed to reduce it to one point (11-12) with the services of Blankenau.
The players of Andreopoulos and Hernandez, who did an excellent job on offense, managed to escape the score again and won the first set 25:22.
In the second set, Panathinaikos took a 1-3 lead with Kovar’s ace, but the continuation belonged to PAOK, who took advantage of the green team’s many mistakes and managed to build a small lead of two points.
Panathinaikos responded and managed to bring the set to 16-16 with a block from Hernandez against Kokkinakis, but PAOK managed to escape again with two goals. The Greens had the opportunity to give him a follow-up at the end of the second set, but with a block from Den Dries on Protopsaltis he closed the set for PAOK at 25-23 to make it 1-1.
In the third set I had nothing to do with the other two. After 6:6, Panathinaikos began to build a lead that grew and the Greens easily reached the 2:1 set with 25:16.
With an excellent pace, Panathinaikos took the lead with three points (6:9), but PAOK managed with a partial 6:1 to turn the picture of the set around 12:10.
Dikephalos used the serve as a weapon and took advantage of the greens’ mistakes to even bring the lead to four points (20-16).
Panathinaikos, with the services of Hernandez, initially managed to reduce the score to 20-19, while later taking the lead with a point from Protopsaltis and two consecutive points from the Cuban.
Andreopoulos’ players failed to capitalize on either of their two match points, PAOK capitalized on their third and closed the set 29-27, sending the game to a tiebreak.
In the tie-break, Panathinaikos managed to break away from the score early and easily took the win 15-10.
