Women’s Volleyball League: Panathinaikos comfortably defeated PAOK, victories for AEK and Olympiakos
Panathinaikos easily defeated PAOK 3-0 in the Women’s Volleyball League derby. AEK remained confidently at the top, with victories for Olympiakos and AO Thiras.
Panathinaikos left no room for a reaction to PAOK and left Thessaloniki with the three points. The Greens, perhaps having their best performance this year, passed the PAOK Sports Arena with ease and forced PAOK to their first home defeat of the year (but 5th place overall in the Volley League).
Essentially in all three sets we had the same scenario as in the first rotation when Grotus went to serve, PAO had clear differences.
In the first game the score was 5-7 5-12 (9-14, 12-20 afterwards), with PAOK getting closer to 19-23 but unable to achieve more. In the second set, 7-8 became 7-12 again, with PAO escaping with 9-17 to easily reach 0-2.
In the third set, with the score at 5:5, PAO took over the substitution, the Dutch winger took serve and went 5:10. The difference was that this time we had the temporary return of PAOK, as 9-14 became 12-14 due to Atkinson’s errors, but the opponent remained at 13-15.
There PAO ran again with 13-19 and came to 17-23. The relaxation on the greens brought the score to 20-23, with PAOK losing a double counterattack (Csumba, Williams) and PAO reaching a match bowl and ultimately winning the match with Atkinson’s attack.
