Policeman hospitalized after clashes with fans in Greece, more than 450 fans arrested
Fans attacked police near the Melina Mercury stadium in Athens during a match between the volleyball teams Olympiacos and Panathinaikos for the League Cup, reports Protothema.
Near the arena, about 150 fans attacked police with Molotov cocktails and flares. One law enforcement officer was injured and hospitalized in critical condition.
The police used tear gas, a cloud of which penetrated the stadium, causing the referee to suspend the game for almost an hour, and then cancel the match altogether. Police arrested 464 fans leaving the arena.
The derby was interrupted with the score 1–0 (25:19, 10:18) in favor of Olympiacos.
