Dynamo Moscow volleyball player Pavel Pankov expressed confidence that the Russian men’s team would fight for gold medals at the Games in Paris.
In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were softened, and in December 2023, the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, said that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who had successfully passed the selection process to the 2024 Summer Olympics in an individual neutral status, but not in team events.
— I will watch the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. I think that the favorite of the (men’s volleyball) tournament is the Italian team. The Russian team could only fight for first place,” Pankov told Metaratings.ru.
The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
