Gamova: “I am always for athletes to use the chance and go to the Olympics. I will never change my mind”
Two-time world volleyball champion Ekaterina Gamova said that she will never change her opinion that all athletes should take the chance to participate in the Olympic Games.
In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. The recommendations were later relaxed, and at the end of 2023, the IOC announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully passed the selection would be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutrals.
— I have always been for all athletes to use their chance and go to the Olympics. I will never change my mind. I will support them, even when there is a barrage of negativity towards them from their compatriots. The Olympics have not lost their significance. These are some of the most important competitions, — the “Championship” quotes Gamova as saying.
The Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11.
