Veronika Stepanova called on Russian skiing and biathlon to follow the example of the volleyball Super League
Olympic cross-country skiing champion Veronika Stepanova said that domestic skiing and biathlon should follow the example of the Russian volleyball Super League.
— We still have skeptics and doubters who think that Russian skiers and biathletes will never recover from being banned from international competitions. And I say, “We need to develop our own!” And I’m not looking at the Moon, but at the Russian Volleyball Super League. In which — you, unbelieving Thomas, won’t believe it — the best volleyball players in the world want to play. In which Natalia Goncharova and Ebrard Karakurt play, and where the French-Turkish diagonal Melissa Kolurbasi has just arrived. Straight from Sweden, by the way. I don’t know about you, but I don’t believe that Melissa has suddenly fallen in love with Siberia — I’m sure it’s about the size of her personal contract and the conditions for professional growth.
This is what we lack in skiing, biathlon, etc. — sponsors and patrons willing to invest, to pay! Yes, I personally have some, as do probably three or four other “winter athletes” — it’s a sin to complain. But there are no commercial leagues. This is exactly what I am doing at the EEF — trying to explain to the target audience present that skiing is cool and, compared to volleyball, cheap. Start sponsoring our clubs and competitions — I will also run with Frida Karlsson and Linn Swann in our Russian Ski Super League. Do you think they will refuse? Ha! , — Stepanova wrote in the Telegram channel.
