The world volleyball championship among girls under the age of 21 in Indonesia is approaching decisive stages. The tournament did not do without sensations, the main of which was created by the Vietnam team. According to the results of the four rounds of the group stage, the Vietnamese were among the leaders and claimed to enter the playoffs. Far from the star team won three victories and suffered only one defeat.

Even the failure in the last round from the modest group from Puerto Rico did not deprive Vietnamese of the chances of the fight for the medal. A great contribution to the success of the Asian squad was made by the volleyball player Dang Tih Hong, who produced as much as 83 points and was part of the top three most effective players of the tournament.

But on August 12, the results of the first four matches with the participation of the Vietnam team were canceled. The team was awarded technical defeats, dropping it to the last place in group A.

According to various sources, questions arose to Hong, as well as to Nguyen Fyong Kuin. Both athletes have a very specific appearance and pronounced male facial features. Perhaps it was this circumstance that provoked a wave of rumors that the Vietnam team brought two men to the women’s tournament. A number of publications also published news that FIVB initiated a gender check against Hong and Kuin.

Rumors about the presence of men in the women’s team arose no coincidence. Exactly the same suspicions arose relative to Nguyen THI Bich Tyen from the adult national team of Vietnam among women.

For the honor of the national team, Vietnamese sports officials had to enter. The Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation Vietnam Le Chi Trung said that the players were absent not because of the gender verification, but because of the requirements of the organizers to provide additional documents, such as birth certificates.

They did not finally expel Vietnam, allowing the game against Puerto Rico at the group stage, as well as a meeting against Egypt in the playoffs for places from 17 to 24. Kuin took part in both matches and helped the team win two victories. But the hong was not in the composition.

The Vietnamese are not ready to put up with such an attitude to volleyball players. Officials said that initially the documents of athletes did not raise questions. They promised to file a complaint against the actions of the organizers in order to defend the reputation of the Hong and the entire national team. True, if the violation is nevertheless confirmed, then the Federation faces a fine of 30 thousand Swiss francs (2.97 million rubles).
