2012 Olympic volleyball champion Dmitry Musersky said that at the end of the current Japanese championship season he will end his professional career and return to Russia.
Musersky is 37 years old and has been playing for the Suntory Sunbirds since 2018.
“I am grateful to you, the fans, for your continued support over the past eight years. I’m going to retire after this season. But this season is not over yet. We will fight with all our might to win the championship title,” Nikkan Sports quotes Musersky.
The volleyball player said that the main reason for ending his career was family. He also noted that he does not plan to play in Russia.
— I want my son to grow up in his native country. All my relatives live in Russia, so I want him to be raised in this environment,” Musersky added.
Musersky is a four-time champion of Japan, champion of Russia and winner of the Champions League as part of the Belgorod “Belogorye”, European champion, World Cup winner, winner of the World League and League of Nations.
