Matytsin called on the VFV to take action against coach Voronkov in the wake of the scandal with the Cuban volleyball player
Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin called unacceptable the statement of the coach of the Kaliningrad Lokomotiv Andrei Voronkov in the final match of the Russian Cup in volleyball with Uralochka against the Cuban Ailama Sese Montalvo.
Voronkov on Thursday during a time-out in the fifth match of the final series, giving instructions to his players, pulled Valeria Zaitseva aside and said: “Why are you catching this monkey again?” The phrase hit the air “Match TV”. For the team from the Sverdlovsk region was the Cuban player Ailama Sese Montalvo.
– The head coach of the Kaliningrad Lokomotiv Andrey Voronkov made an insulting statement about the Cuban Ailama Sese Montalvo. The Ministry of Sports considers any manifestations of racism and disrespectful attitude towards the opponent to be unacceptable. In modern society there is no place for discrimination based on race or nationality. I believe that in connection with this incident, the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) needs to take disciplinary measures against the Lokomotiv coach,” the ministry’s press service quotes the minister.
