The head coach of Uralochka-NTMK, Nikolai Karpol, spoke about the scandalous incident involving Lokomotiv head coach Andrei Voronkov in the fifth match of the final playoff series of the Russian women’s championship against the Yekaterinburg team.
During a break, Voronkov turned to one of his volleyball players and said, “Why are you holding this monkey again?” Said. In “Uralochka-NTMK” they thought that by “monkey” the specialist meant the dark-skinned Cuban striker Ailama Montalvo.
“For me, this is a strange expression. Everyone was shocked that girls could be called with such words. It seems that everyone has their own methods. It seems to me that Cubans are a calmer nation, so Ailama took the matter calmly. Had it been an American or someone else in his place, the scandal would have been on a global scale, everything could have ended in the courts. Ailama is a calm, kind and educated girl, she treats everyone warmly.
I do not think that the whole structure of the club will be perceived negatively because of the action of one person. Everyone should be responsible for their actions. We will have a fighting spirit for Lokomotiv as well as for all teams. We want to grow as a team,” quotes Match TV Karpol.
On Monday it became known that Montalvo has left Uralochka-NTMK. The Yekaterinburg club said that this was not due to a history of discrimination, but to the expiration of the volleyball player’s contract.
