The head coach of the Kaliningrad Lokomotiv Andrey Voronkov has practically lost his chances of getting a position in the Russian national volleyball team, Match TV reports.
According to the source, Voronkov was one of the candidates for the post of head coach of the men’s national team, but after the incident in the final of the Russian championship, this possibility has been reduced to a minimum. Aleksey Verbov, Alexander Klimkin, Plamen Konstantinov and Konstantin Bryansky also apply for the position.
Earlier, the Russian men’s team was headed by Finnish specialist Tuomas Sammelvuo. His contract expired on December 31, 2021.
Voronkov on May 12, during a timeout in the fifth match of the final series with Uralochka-NTMK, giving instructions to his players, pulled Valery Zaitseva aside and said: “Why are you catching this monkey again?” The phrase hit the air “Match TV”. For the team from the Sverdlovsk region was the Cuban player Ailama Sese Montalvo.
The meeting of the disciplinary commission of the VFV in the case of Voronkov, who turned 55 on May 19, is scheduled for Thursday.
