Coach Voronkov refused on principle to apologize for the racist slur

The disciplinary commission of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) made a decision regarding the head coach of the Kaliningrad Lokomotiv Andrey Voronkov.
The specialist was found guilty of insulting Uralochka-NTMK’s playmate Ailama Sese Montalvo during the fifth match of the final series of the Russian Championship among women’s teams, which took place on May 12. The commission recommended disqualifying Voronkov for up to two years. The final decision will be made at a meeting of the WEF Executive Committee on May 31.
It is noted that Voronkov and Lokomotiv refused in principle to apologize to Uralochka-NTMK and personally to the Montalvo player.
When considering the case, the members of the disciplinary commission analyzed the video recordings of the game, listened to the opinions of the parties, independent experts, and also took into account the wide public outcry from the press, state and public figures.

Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).
Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.
For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.
In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.
The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.
The final match will take place on December 26.
