“Gathering of ghouls.” Guberniev insulted Lokomotiv and the coach for refusing to apologize for racism
Match TV commentator Dmitry Guberniev admitted to Match TV that he was ashamed of the Kaliningrad Lokomotiv and its head coach Andrey Voronkov for their fundamental refusal to apologize to the Cuban player Ailama Cese Montalvo and Uralochka-NTMK for racist insults.
“The fact that he basically refused to apologize shows that he is a brute and a scoundrel. I have no other words. I am very ashamed of Lokomotiv. I have a feeling of shame and embarrassment that such people exist in principle in a multinational country called Russia. Some kind of bunch of ghouls,” said Guberniev.
On May 19, the disciplinary commission of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) found Voronkov guilty for insulting the Uralochka-NTMK teammate Montalvo during the fifth match of the final series of the Russian Championship among women’s teams, which took place on May 12. During a timeout, Voronkov called Montalvo a “monkey”. The WFV Commission recommended that the coach be disqualified for up to two years. The final decision will be made at a meeting of the WEF Executive Committee on May 31. It was noted that Voronkov and Lokomotiv refused in principle to apologize to Uralochka-NTMK and Montalvo.
