“Things like that happen to everybody.” VFV Vice-President – about the racist scandal with coach Voronkov

Gennady Shipulin, Vice-President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVV), commented on the decision of the VVF disciplinary commission, which found the coach of ZhVK Lokomotiv Andrey Voronkov guilty of disciplinary violations and advised the executive committee. VVV disqualifies the specialist for up to two years.

In the last series of the Women’s Super League against Uralochka, Voronkov asked one of his team’s volleyball players, “Why are you holding this monkey again?” said. For “Uralochka” is a dark-skinned athlete from Ailama Montalvo, originally from Cuba.

“There must be a solution, but it is difficult for me to say what it is. The Board will make the right decision. We must find a compromise. Andrei Voronkov has been in volleyball for a very long time and he is a normal person. Situations like this happen to everyone, then I said you should apologize, find the right solution. There are difficulties in our coaching work, but he did not insult himself, he did.

We must approach the issue carefully, weighing all the pros and cons. Not the best decision – just disqualify, maybe there will be some changes. I hope everything will be resolved normally. Disqualification is the wrong way out, if you have to apologize, let them apologize. None of our coaching workshops should allow such moments, they do not respect us. This is, God forbid, the first wave of emotions, then they calm down, ”says Metaratings.ru, quoting Shipulin.

Coach Voronkov refused to explain why he did not apologize to the Cuban volleyball player for a racist remark.
