Lokomotiv apologized for the incident with the head coach of the volleyball team Andrei Voronkov in the fifth match of the Super League final series with Uralochka-NTMK.
Voronkov on May 12, during a time-out in the match with Uralochka-NTMK, giving instructions to his players, pulled Valeria Zaitseva aside and told her: “Why are you catching this monkey again?” This was aired by Match TV. Cuban Ailama Sese Montalvo played for Uralochka-NTMK, who later left the club.
— Employees of our club, players, coaches have always treated opponents, referees and fans with great respect. The principles of mutual respect are important for us, and in the life of the club there has not been, is not and will not be any place of discrimination. This is also evidenced by the fact that representatives of different states and nationalities have played in our team for four years of its existence, including volleyball players from Germany, Cuba, Poland, Serbia, Holland.
We especially emphasize that we are grateful to VC “Uralochka-NTMK” and its management for the level of interaction and the excellent game that both teams showed during the final series, which became a real decoration of the whole season.
We really did not want the current situation to spoil the impression of a wonderful volleyball and a bright final. The emotional phrase of the head coach of our team, said in the heat of the decisive game of the final match, did not aim to offend or humiliate anyone on the court or outside it. And if this happened, it was done without any intention on our part.
Once again, we apologize to VK Uralochka-NTMK, the wonderful volleyball player of this team, Ailame Sese Montalvo, to all fans, volleyball fans and sports lovers! the club said in a statement.
On May 19, the Disciplinary Commission of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) considered the scandalous episode. Voronkov was found guilty of committing a disciplinary violation, the commission recommended that the 55-year-old specialist be disqualified for up to two years.
The executive committee of the VFV will make a decision on disqualification on May 31.
