Lokomotiv apologized for the racist incident with the head coach of the volleyball team Andrei Voronkov, specifying that the long absence of an apology was due to the expectation of an official assessment of this episode by the disciplinary commission.
On May 12, Voronkov, during a time-out in a match with Uralochka-NTMK Yekaterinburg, giving instructions to his players, pulled Valeria Zaitseva aside and told her: “Why are you catching this monkey again?” This was aired by Match TV. On May 19, the Disciplinary Commission of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) considered the scandalous episode. Voronkov was found guilty of committing a disciplinary violation, the commission recommended that the 55-year-old specialist be disqualified for up to two years.
The executive committee of the VFV will make a decision on disqualification on May 31.
