Commentator Dmitry Guberniev believes that high pressure from the public forced Lokomotiv Kaliningrad to apologize for the words of the team’s coach Andrey Voronkov in the fifth match of the Super League final series against Uralochka-NTMK.
Voronkov on May 12, during a time-out in the match with Uralochka-NTMK, giving instructions to his players, pulled Valeria Zaitseva aside and told her: “Why are you catching this monkey again?” This was aired by Match TV. Cuban Ailama Sese Montalvo played for Uralochka-NTMK, who later left the club.
– The mountain gave birth to a mouse, but the sword does not cut a guilty head! I think that it was public opinion and caring journalists that actually forced Lokomotiv to apologize! But the racist Voronkov himself is silent like a stump, Guberniev wrote in his Telegram channel.
On May 19, a meeting of the Disciplinary Commission of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) was held, which recommended that a 55-year-old specialist be disqualified for up to two years.
The final decision on Voronkov will be made on May 31 by the executive committee of the VFV.
