Uralochka general manager Valentina Ogienko said that for racist remarks Lokomotiv coach Andrey Voronkov should apologize, not his club.
During the final series of the Women’s Super League between Lokomotiv and Uralochka, Voronkov asked one of his team’s volleyball players, alluding to the Cuban Ailama Montalvo of the Yekaterinburg club, “Why are you holding this monkey again?” Said. Today Lokomotiv issued an official apology to Uralochka and Montalvo.
Lokomotiv as a club has nothing to do with it. Actually, it was the coach’s fault. It’s clear that the club is protecting its coach’s interests, that’s okay. Ogienko, as quoted by TASS, I believe the coach should apologize, not the club.
The disciplinary commission of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) recommended that Voronkov be disqualified for two years. The final decision could be made by the WFV executive committee on May 31.
