Papafotiou has signed a one-year contract with Panathinaikos
Amateur Panathinaikos announced the extension of his collaboration with Athena Papafotiou for another year.
Athena Papafotiou will stay green for one more year as the trefoil passer has agreed, as expected, to continue her career at Panathinaikos for another year. The amateur announced the agreement between the two sides on Monday afternoon.
This was the third renewal in this year’s list as Panathinaikos has already announced their agreement with Roga and Grothe. Of course, Papafotiou also played a key role in the Klee’s return to the top of Greece.
The relevant announcement states:
“Panathinaikos Athletic Club announces the extension of its collaboration with Athena Papafotiou for the women’s volleyball division for the 2022-2023 season.
The duo Athena Papafotiou stays in the Panathinaikos family and will continue to strengthen the department in the new season.
She is one of the leading Greek passers who proved her worth last season as she was one of the key factors in Panathinaikos winning the double.
In a statement on www.pao1908.com, Papafotiou explained:
“I am very happy to wear the Panathinaikos jersey for another year! We’ve had a fantastic year and I’m delighted that my return to Greece has meant Panathinaikos’ return to the top after many years. Next year offers us a different motivation as we are called to defend the acquis.
Staying at the top is even harder than getting there and I’m excited and thirsty for this new challenge. I look forward to fighting for every game with the people at our side. Thank you Panathinaikos and the coaches for believing in my face! See you later!”.

Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).
Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.
For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.
The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.
