With the outstanding games Olympiacos – Panathinaikos and AEK – PAOK, the “16” stage of the cup in women’s volleyball takes place.

The 6 of the 8 tickets for the quarter-final phase of the Women’s Cup will be “checked” on Wednesday evening (19/01) as the matches for the 1st game of the 3rd phase of the institution will be played.

While the women’s volley league teams got into the fray and the draw was fun, three very large derbies emerged, pitting 6 of the teams ranked in the top 7 overall against each other.

In the Rentis hall, runners-up Olympiakos host champions Panathinaikos in the Derby of Eternity, broadcast by ERT Sports. This is the second meeting of the two sides this year, with the Greens prevailing in Agios Thomas with a 3-1 set in the first round match.

“Both teams go into this game in good shape. For our part, we’re improving and we want to confirm our development in this game. We’re ready to fight and it was easy to prepare for this game in terms of motivation. “We need a very play a good game to win and we’re waiting for our team to do a very good job,” said Italy Red-White coach Carlo Paris.

“These derbies always have a special character, plus we now have the character that it’s a knockout game. Two equal teams play, the best of this year’s championship. “Considering Olympiacos’ home field advantage, we have to develop our quality and character as a team,” said Apostolos Oikonomou.

In “Apostolos Kontos” from New Philadelphia we have the third this year against biceps, with AEK (4th in women’s VL) winning both championship games with PAOK (last year’s cup winner and 5th in this year’s championship) like at home 3-2 in the second game and two weeks ago he had won 3-1 in Thessaloniki in the game in which Marco Feolio made his debut on the black and white bench.

“Tomorrow is a completely different game. PAOK is a team designed to claim titles. “The fact that we won at home two weeks ago means nothing and, on the contrary, gives motivation to the opponent, while he will be better prepared,” said Costas Arseniadis meaningfully, continuing: “We, on the other hand, have no stress and we will do it , what we always do “We’re going to come in and play as best we can to get the win.”

For his part, the Italian coach of PAOK, Marco Feolio, commented: “We completed our preparation without any problems, knowing full well that we have a difficult game ahead of us. It will be a strong game between two very good and high-class teams. It’s a knockout game so every mistake counts and I think that’s where the game is judged, meaning the team that makes the fewest mistakes wins. For our part, we will give everything to qualify.”

In the Mikra Hall, Aris (who is in 3rd place) welcomes last year’s finalist AO Thira (he is 7th in the championship). “Three strong couples emerged from the draw for the round of 16 of the cup and one of them is ours with AOTH. We’re playing at home and we have to look strong., said Yellows coach Giannis Tsairelis, adding: “Santorini are a very good team, but we really want to make progress with the institution of the cup. We are undefeated in the league at home and we want to extend our winning streak in the cup as well.”.

For his part, Santorini coach Costas Papadopoulos stressed: “The cup is always one of AO Thira’s goals. The draw made us play away against a very strong team, but we will do our best to qualify for the 8th division of the tournament..

The first game of the year takes place in Voula, with the grown Thetis welcoming the ever-fighting Purple.

Aiantas will host the Amazons in Evosmos, who they defeated 3-2 sets in the first round of Volley League, while Nea Erithraia’s team scored an informal second leg 3-0 sets at home.

Apollonios is one of the two teams that are in the 16 of the cup and play in the A2 Women. Keratsini’s side have a difficult task against AO Lamia.

On Thursday, Pannaxiakos meet Naxos and Markopoulos, while next Monday’s round of 16 will conclude with Elpida Ampelokipi, who plays in the A2 women, and Elysiakos.
