Gennady Shipulin, Vice-President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF), reacted to the decision to disqualify Lokomotiv Kaliningrad head coach Andrey Voronkov for two years for racist remarks.

Recall that Voronkov called Cuban volleyball player Ailama Cese Montalvo a “monkey” during one of the matches.

“Members of the board of directors, the highest organ of our volleyball, took a unanimous decision. There is nothing surprising in this, Voronkov had a lot of time to improve the situation, to make a humane apology, so the disciplinary commission supported the disqualification. Valuable people should be sympathetic, insulting someone is unacceptable in sports.

Voronkov is a worthy person who suffered because of his mistake, but he will improve. Of course it will work, but in the lower leagues, not in the higher leagues. Voronkov’s punishment will be a lesson for all coaches, because during the game you can not hold on to emotions, it is difficult. I had an actor that I called “beard” but not “monkey”, that’s too much, ”Shipulin said in an interview with Metaratings.ru.

Andrey Voronkov has 10 days to appeal the VFV executive committee’s decision on disqualification.
