Yuri Marichev, the former head coach of the Russian women’s volleyball team, commented on the two-year disqualification of Kaliningrad Lokomotiv head coach Andrei Voronkov.
“I think if Voronkov had acted differently, the federation would have made a different, less drastic decision. I agree that any expert on emotions can swear, but at the same time, you should always feel responsible for your words and actions. It is difficult to guess why Andrei behaved this way and which line of defense he chose. You must be able to admit mistakes. After you’ve done that, declare it. Unfortunately, it didn’t, and I don’t understand this backlash. I would have acted differently,” Marichev said in an interview with RT.
Today, May 30, the All-Russian Volleyball Federation decided to dismiss Voronkov for racist remarks against Cuban volleyball player Ailama Sese Montalvo.
