Lokomotiv Kaliningrad announced the appointment of a new head coach to replace Voronkov, who was suspended for racism

Kaliningrad Lokomotiv announced on its official website the appointment of Konstantin Sidenko as head coach.
The team was previously led by Andrei Voronkov, who was suspended for two years on May 30 for racist insults against Cuban volleyball player Ailama Sese Montalvo. On May 12, during a time-out in the final match of the Russian Championship with Uralochka-NTMK, referring to the volleyball player of his team, he said: “Why are you catching this monkey again?” This was aired by Match TV. Disqualification implies the non-participation of Voronkov in all events under the auspices of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF).
Sidenko has not previously led women’s clubs. From December 2018 to February 2020, he was the head coach of Ural (Ufa). In the 2020/21 season, he was a member of the coaching staff of Kuzbass Kemerovo, and in the 2021/2022 season, Zenit Kazan.
Lokomotiv from Kaliningrad is the reigning champion of Russia. In the final series, the club defeated Uralochka-NTMK with a score of 3-2.

Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).
Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.
For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.
In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.
The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.
The final match will take place on December 26.
