EOPE’s accounts frozen due to debt, Karabetsos resigns
The EOPE account has been frozen due to debts to a security firm, causing choking fits in the volleyball federation as Giorgos Karabetsos prepares to resign.
Zero hour for the volleyball association, because the enforcement of a court judgment for old debts causes financial suffocation.
In particular, EOPE owes money to a security company for guarding the closed Peania. Initially, the payment was made with state funds, but through the federal government, but when this stopped, the bill reached an amount of over two hundred thousand euros, and with interest, three hundred thousand euros.
This is an issue that Sportish has highlighted and has even reached Parliament.
The account is frozen, Karabetsos resigns
But what happened now? After the court decision of 2017 and since the amount was not paid, the security company took all possible procedures and managed to freeze the association’s accounts.
Therefore, EOPE cannot pay any of its ongoing expenses at the moment, which of course ties Giorgos Karabetsos’ hands. The President of the Federation convened an Extraordinary Board. informing them of the situation and handing in their resignation.
This is essentially a problem that can only be solved through government intervention, and it remains to be seen if that will happen. At this point, we should emphasize that the Karabetsu administration has placed great emphasis on debt throughout its tenure.
If the federal debt had reached seven million euros, it has now fallen to just over one million, including around three hundred thousand euros in debt to the security company.
