PAOK – Olympiacos 3-1: Net win and top for Dikefalos
Totally superior, PAOK capitalized on Olympiacos’ mistakes and clinched the clear win (3-1) to at least temporarily climb to the top of the men’s volleyball league.
PAOK has been at the top of the Men’s Volley League (with more play, of course) since Monday night, January 31st. Overall, the team of Giannis Kalmazidis Olympiakos was superior, winning 3-1 sets (33-31, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20), leaving it – for now – in 2nd place on the scoreboard.
The first set was a thriller with both teams throwing bowls in the trash one after the other. Because of this, the set went into lengthy overtime before PAOK finally celebrated after enjoying a point.
In the second set, Olympiakos found rhythm in the middle of the set and with one weapon, good service at PAOK left no room for reaction to reach the draw relatively comfortably.
In the 3rd set the picture was completely different. PAOK was extremely efficient in reception and blocking, escaping early with a safety difference, clearing very quickly and retaking the lead.
In the 4th set, PAOK made a mini series in its opener, quickly found itself five points behind and didn’t look back. Dikefalos was consistent in shot and block, taking advantage of Olympiakos’ risk on serve and driving to a clear win.
Sets: 33-31, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20.
