Tenerife – Panathinaikos 3-0: Defeat and exclusion for the Greens in Spain
Tenerife beat Panathinaikos 3-0 and slowed down the course of the greens in the eighth of the Challenge Cup in women’s volleyball.
Panathinaikos’ run in the Challenge Cup ended in phase “8”, because after the 2:3 in Athens, Tenerife won 3:0 sets in Spain and thus qualified for the semifinals.
The greens had great trouble completing the stages, constantly chasing the score, while the development of the first set played a key role in the development of the game.
Apostolos Oikonomou used almost all of his players to find the form that would disrupt the game’s image, but this was not possible as many of the team’s weapons were found on a bad day.
The first set started with the Spaniards coming into the game better and creating a lead that even reached four points (13-9).
Somewhere there the Greens responded, managing to run 9-2 to lead them 15-18, but then a blackout occurred. The Spaniards then ran again 10-3 to win the set 25-21.
The green blackout continued at the start of the second set after the Spaniards led 9-2. Oikonomou changed half of the team, using Konstandellou, Tsitsigianni and Konstantinou instead of Hatziefstratiadou, Stepanenko and Hadava.
The greens slowly started to close the gap, going -2 (22-20) into the last straight of the set. Trifylli reduced it to 24:23, but Tenerife ended the set with an attack from Wagner (25:23).
The start of the third set was similar. Tenerife quickly took the lead 4-0 and 9-3, Panathinaikos responded and reduced the lead to 10-8. However, Jordan’s performances managed to change the picture of the game again as Tenerife went 20-12 away.
The Greens tried again to close the gap but managed halfway (22-18) and the Spaniards finished the set and match 25-19.
