The head coach of the Tatarstan volleyball team Alexei Verbov on the air of Match TV noted the high level of the All-Russian Spartakiad in summer sports among the strongest athletes in 2022, but added that the format of the competition needs to be changed.
The national team of Tatarstan reached the finals of the Spartakiad of the strongest, having won victories in all rounds of the group stage. On Friday, Verbov’s team beat the Leningrad Region team 3–2.
– The Spartakiad is a very long tournament, many matches in a short amount of time. We tried to alternate the guys on the site, we deserved this opportunity. It is also a good test for the younger generation, they managed to play against Superleague teams. At some point they lowered their heads, but it was nice to see that in the fifth installment they entered the court like phoenixes, with different faces.
We were preparing for the Spartakiad, as well as for any other tournament. We have gathered players who are not accustomed to doing something full-time. The calendar is torn for us, we need to be ready for this tournament, the championship starts in a month, but everything is on an equal footing, it’s hard for everyone.
In the future, the format of the Spartakiad may be revised, but the tournament is interesting and useful. When else do we organize matches with such top rivals? Verbov told Match TV.
