It is worth noting that the champion, and in some cases the finalist of the European Cup, will get tickets to the Euroleague, the strongest club tournament of the old world, with a very difficult number of participants.

The first opponent of Ronen Ginsburg’s wards on such a long game path will be Lithuanian Litkabelis. The Baltic club is one of the oldest clubs in its country, it was founded in 1964 and has well-known basketball personalities among its students. In 1993, Panevezys club became one of the eight founders of the newly created Lithuanian Basketball League and has never left the top basketball division in their country since then.

For a long time, our today’s rival could not boast of good results, but since the 2016/2017 season, everything has changed. Then “Litkabelis” returned to the European arena after a significant break and immediately entered the Top 16 of the European Cup and finished in the second final position of the previously unattainable domestic championship for him. After that, the club regularly played in European competitions and became a serious fighting unit in the Lithuanian championship.

The next big success for Litkabelis was last season. To begin with, the Baltic team confidently passed the group of the European Cup and in the 1/8 final, in a worthy fight, which, by the way, lost to the Italian Virtus from Bologna, the future winner of the tournament. But the real success was expected at the domestic championship of “Litkabelis”. In the semi-finals of the Lithuanian championship, he caused a real sensation by defeating Prometheus’ rival legendary Kaunas Zalgiris 3:1, winning the final silver medals for the second time in history.

After this success, many important players left the team, who moved from Spain, Greece, Turkey to more status clubs and even to the same local big Zalgiris. However, Serbian head coach Nenad Chanak remained at the club. He has the lion’s share in building the sensational team last year. By the way, Ukrainian basketball fans should remember him well. In the late 2000s, Nenad Chanak managed to play for Yuzhno Chemist and Griffins in Simferopol.
