Prometheus hosts Paris with home advantage in the EuroCup KO rounds where the game is seen

Prometheus welcomes Paris (7.30 p.m., Novasports Prime and LIVE from Sportish) to the 17th (penultimate) matchday of the EuroCup with the goal of a win that secures at least 4th place in its group while also securing home advantage in the stage of 16 of the event.

The most important game of the season for Prometheus in Europe is today (22/3). The Patrinos welcome Paris (7.30 p.m., Novasports Prime and LIVE from Sportish) on the 17th (penultimate) day of the EuroCup in a much decisive game.

If Prometheus wins, they will secure at least fourth place – and thus home advantage in the round of 16. It is recalled that 8 teams from each group will qualify based on a behavioral system for the next stage where qualification for the Quarterfinals will be determined by the logic of knockout in a single game. In general, the first 4 of each group play with the well-known crosses (1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5) for home qualification.

Prometheus had won the first round match in Paris (71-74), which means that with a win it is at least 4th place. There are also scenarios that can put him in both 3rd and 2nd place depending on the results of Hapoel Tel Aviv and Turk Telecom who are above him in the rankings.

However, before Prometheus jumps into the final race scenarios, he wants to secure at least 4th place first, which will happen if he wins today. Otherwise, if they lose, they will be out of luck on the final day of play and will likely finish 5th.

For the third time, two Spanish teams win the EuroLeague and the EuroCup in the same year

Real Madrid and Gran Canaria managed the EuroLeague and EuroCup double this year. For the third time, two Spanish teams reach the top of both competitions in the same season.

The consistency of the Spanish teams in recent years is admirable. This year, for the third time since 2000, two teams from the Iberian Peninsula have won the EuroLeague and the EuroCup in the same season.

Through the hands of Sergio Yul, Real Olympiakos hit the canvas in the Final Four 2023 in Kaunas and lifted their 11th trophy in Europe’s top club competition. Not long ago, Gran Canaria had defeated Turk Telekom to become champions of the EuroCup, securing their place in the EuroLeague. Although their presence there next season is far from certain, it needs to be thought about.

Barcelona and Valencia have actually managed this informal double twice in the past. In the 2002/03 season, the Blaugrana won their first EuroLeague, while the Orange were crowned EuroCup champions and clinched their first European title. Simultaneous successes in the EuroLeague and the EuroCup were achieved again by Barcelona and Valencia in the 2009/10 season.

The Turkish Basketball Federation appeared to be dissatisfied with the EuroCup after the “strange” accident involving Turk Telecom coach Erdem Can on the day of the final.

The focus is on the accident of the coach, Erdem Can, apparently caused intentionally by the driver of the bus that took the Turk Telecom team to the Gran Canaria stadium for training on the day of the EuroCup final, which is news and has provoked violent reactions. In this regard, the Turkish Basketball Federation issued a sharp statement, stressing that it would review its ties with the organizing authority.

“While participating in the EuroCup final, our representative Turk Telekom was defeated by Gran Canaria and took second place. The Turkish Basketball Federation is deeply saddened by the infamous accident that resulted in the coach’s injury Erdem Can when Turk Telecom went to pre-game practice.

Despite the shocking and unprecedented events, and despite the awards made in the game, our team, Turk Telecom, has made all of Turkey proud, regardless of the outcome. The horrific incidents experienced by the team before, during and after the crucial game that would decide the champion prompt the Turkish Basketball Federation to review its relationship with the EuroCup governing body.

Once again we send our best wishes to Turk Telecom for what happened off the field, which is far from sporting ideals. At the same time, we are announcing to the public that we will be monitoring the incident.” details the relevant announcement.
