PHOENIX – Facing the best club in the NBA, the Toronto Raptors played a terrific game and beat the Phoenix Suns 117-112 on Friday.

Gary Trent was shocking with 42 points to help the Raptors beat the Western champions, who are 28-8 at home.

Trent went eight to 11 on three-pointers. He also won eight rebounds with a high number of visitors, a draw with Fred VanVleet. Trent posted a ninth game with 30 or more points this season.

Asked if there was a time in the game if he felt he would be very productive, Trent said no.

“I was just trying to give my best and apply myself to what defines me,” he said. Just stay in my game and try to win. »

Pascal Shiakam added 25 points, 10 more than Scotty Barnes. VanVleet got 12 points, one more than Precious Achiuwa.

Cameron Payne had 24 points for the Suns, who had won their last two games. Devin Booker scored 22 points.

Toronto (36-30) is in seventh place in the West, two and a half games ahead of the Brooklyn Nets. The Raptors will play again on Saturday at 21:00 in Denver.

Nick Nurse’s team had an excellent first ten minutes, leading 30-24. The last points of the engagement were a long shot by Shiakam, immediately after a successful steal by Dalano Bandon.

At halftime, the guests were ahead 56-52. The Raptors helped their goal by leading 10-0 in offensive rebounds.

In the third quarter, a 12-0 push led Toronto to a total of 40 points. The quarter ended 96-82 Raptors. The Suns then scored eight unanswered points and the score became 107-107.

Khem Birch responded with a basic basket, after an offensive rebound. Shortly afterwards, the Raptors circled Booker, splitting Barnes into steals and dunks.

“We do things like that,” Trent said. It is part of keeping the plan (of the nurse). Hands up, staying active, something like that. We have done the job. »

Shiakam added a shot after another steal, but Phoenix made matters worse when a long shot by Booker approached the Suns at 113-112, with 50 seconds to go.

Booker, however, missed a full shot immediately after, the rebound went to Barnes and Trent scored the night for his men with four free throws.

The Suns were without Chris Paul (thumb), Cameron Johnson (quadruped) and Frank Kaminsky (knee).

For the Raptors, OG Anunoby lost a ninth consecutive game, following a broken right finger. Malachi Flynn is also sidelined with an injury to his left thigh.
