The story in three moments
The ultimate ABA champion
In the last three years of the now defunct ABA (American Basketball Association), the then-New Jersey Nets won two championships, including in 1976, which ended before the NBA was unified for good. It was the famous Dr.
the lost dream
In 2002 and 2003, Jason Kidd’s New Jersey Nets did back to back of trips to the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, the first time they were swept by the Los Angeles Lakers of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, while in 2003 it was the San Antonio Spurs of Duncan, Parker and Manu Ginobili who took away their dream of reaching the title.
The new era
In 2012-13, the Nets moved to Brooklyn and changed their name to match the neighborhood, where the new, state-of-the-art Barclays Centers, home of the franchise to this day, was built.
In their second season as the Brooklyn Nets, they gambled big with the signings of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, but were shut out by LeBron James’ Miami Heat. Then the franchise went through very difficult years: between 2016 and 2018 they never exceeded 28 wins.
But hand in hand with an All-Star – worthy – like D’Angelo Russell, they returned to the Playoffs in 2019 and paved the way (before the departure of D-Lo) for the new era, with Kyrie Irving and Kevin. Durant in the lead.head.
