Javier Mendes, former coach of Khabib Nurmagomedov, said that the reason for the departure of the former UFC champion from the MMA industry was the desire to spend more time with his family.
On Thursday, Nurmagomedov posted a photo with the fighters on a social network, signing: “Take care of yourself brothers. I hope my decision will only benefit, I hugged you all tightly.
Khabib just doesn’t want to miss being a father. He spoke to me about three weeks ago, spoke about his plan and said that he intended to talk to the team and inform them of the decision. He does it for the right reasons. He is a family man and just wants to spend more time with his family.
Khabib learned a lot from his father, me and other great coaches he worked with, and his guys learned a lot from him. He instilled in the new generation what he learned from his father, and you can see his influence.
Will he be missed? Undoubtedly. Will it negatively affect the team? It remains to be seen, but given how much work he has done coaching his brothers and other members of the team, I think they are ready to move forward and continue his legacy, ”Mendez is quoted as saying. Yahoo Sports.
Nurmagomedov became UFC lightweight champion in April 2018 and officially retired in March 2021. Under his leadership, Islam Makhachev and Usman Nurmagomedov won the champion titles in the UFC and Bellator lightweight divisions, respectively.

Former world heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg), American Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) shared his expectations for the upcoming fight against WBC, WBA and IBF titleholder Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs).
“You know my next opponent. Usyk challenged me to a fight. He said he wanted to meet me in the ring. I accepted the challenge. “I push horses” and “I feel it, I feel it hard.”
What’s my plan? Be smart, be faster, use my agility, be tough, get in the ring and knock him out. I am known for my strength, I need to show it. “I’ve been through a tough journey in my life, but I’m back and ready to beat Usyk,” Wilder said.
The American had 49 fights in the professional ring and won 44 victories (43 of them ahead of schedule). In June, Wilder knocked out his compatriot Tyrell Herndon, ending his two defeats in 2023 and 2024.
Usyk last appeared in the ring in July, when he stopped Briton Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian became the absolute world champion but lost a title by refusing to defend his WBO belt in October.
